Daisy + Cris 6.20.09

Daisy and Cris were recommended to me from a guest of Alina and Greg’s wedding back in January. Their wedding ceremony was so sweet on Ft. Lauderdale beach, and they spent the afternoon surrounded by their family and friends and loved ones. Some of Cris’s family flew all the way down from Maryland for the happy occasion.

The ceremony was performed by a friend of theirs, lending an air of intimacy to the whole thing that it was just a pleasure for me to photograph. By the end of the afternoon, we all felt like good friends.

Daisy and Cris, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your special day, and wishing you and your new family many many years of happiness!

I hope you enjoy the preview of the photos, and CLICK HERE to see the entire gallery (you can register to be notified once all the photos are released).

Shirley + Eley 6.13.09

Shirley and Eley were married on 6.13.09 in a beautiful ceremony and reception at Tony’s Reception Palace in Miami, FL. Funny enough, her makeup was done by a Lisette as well! My good friend Nayibi second shot the wedding with me, and together, we captured some really beautiful moments!

From the moment I met Shirley and Eley that first time at Starbucks, I KNEW their wedding was going to be a blast, and they certainly didn’t disappoint us! Their wedding was filled with emotional moments, from Eley tearing up when first seeing Shirley come walking down the aisle, to the emotional dance between Shirley and her father to Luther Vandross’s “Dance With My Father” (that was MY teary eyed moment!). It was a day filled with love, laughter, fun, and dancing with friends and family… Everything a wedding SHOULD be!

I hope you enjoy a preview of their photos!

Amanda + Gabriel 3.21.09

Amanda and Gabriel were married on 3.21.09 and I was lucky enough to shoot the beginning of the event with Hitz Photography. They were married at Pan’s Garden in Palm Beach, and though the weather threatened to rain down on us at any minute (and eventually DID), their ceremony was beautiful with touching moments all around. Here are a few of my favorite shots, and once you’re done, please go check out Bill and Jackie’s post here.

Amanda’s father cried during the father-daughter dance, and she comforted him. It was such a touching moment, how can you NOT love weddings?!

I LOVE this shot of Gabriel dancing with his mom, with Amanda and her mother looking on in the background:

This wedding was so lovely, and it was great that despite the weather, we were able to take some really beautiful photos in a wonderful venue!

Thanks again to Hitz Photography and Amanda and Gabriel for letting me share the day with them.

*Star Struck*

Typically, I am not a star-struck type of person. Being raised by a normal, down to earth family, my parents always taught me that no one was better than anyone else, and that people were people. Those in positions of authority were to be respected, and those less fortunate were to be pitied, and essentially, that’s why I’ve been able to have a conversation with anyone from the president of a company down to a homeless person. I’ve always been a people person. So, the times I’ve been impressed by a person have been few and far between.

And then today, I dialed a number, and was knocked off my feet.

I’ve been interested in attending a photography workshop for quite some time, but was waiting for the right opportunity to come up, and timing and finances to work themselves out. I’ve been a fan of Cliff Mautner’s photography since the first time I saw it, and his work is so inspiring that I said, “Oh, I’d love for him to shoot my wedding”. For a photographer to say that about someone else’s work, says something big (we’re a kooky bunch).

Imagine my delight, when I saw that he was teaching, and had several workshops scheduled in 2009. The one listed on his website was for May, and living in Florida, I knew there was no way I’d be able to plan that in time, so I noticed there was a phone number at the bottom of the blog post, and decided to call and ask what the future workshop dates were. So I call the number… To my SHOCK and embarrassment, a man answered, “This is Cliff”.

I HAD CALLED CLIFF MAUTNER’S CELL PHONE.

Apologizing, and hoping I hadn’t bothered him, I told him who I was, and why I was calling. He was extremely nice, and proceeded to tell me he was in…. Dubai! Not only did he answer his own cell phone, but he answered from the other side of the earth!

I was completely starstruck, and will definitely be attending his workshop. I was awed by how nice he was, and found myself wondering why other “big name” photographers weren’t this nice. Isn’t it amazing how one small thing made such a huge difference?

PS Please check out his website or this link to his blog so you can see what I’m talking about!

Linda + Arthur 3.20.09

Linda, Arthur, and their family flew all the way from California to get married at the Southernmost Hotels in Key West Florida. Their wedding was beautiful and intimate. Linda and her sister Yvonne work in the wedding industry in California, and they coordinated ALL the beautiful details at this wedding themselves.

Thank you to Nayibi for helping me and listening to me ramble for 4 hours each way from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West. We had a blast!

Hillary + Bob 3.7.09

I met Hillary and Bob with Ryan from Seequent Photography a few weeks ago when shooting their engagement session in Miami. They were a blast to be around, and I knew their wedding would be a blast to be at as well.

They were married at St. Ambrose church in Deerfield Beach, FL, which was gorgeous, and their reception was held at the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club in Lighthouse Point, FL.

Here are some favorites from the day:

Everyone who knows me, or keeps up with the blog knows I cry at EVERY wedding… During this dance (to Unchained Melody), as I was taking these photos, Hillary was whispering in Bob’s ear, “I want to have babies…I want to have a family with you”. That tender moment brought tears to my eyes all over again! I know, I’m such a softy..

Hillary and Bob were such an awesome couple.. I’m so glad they let me be a part of their day, and so honored that Kary and Ryan let me come along with them to capture these great memories for them!

MS Society Walk – Aventura, FL 3.1.09

I love volunteer work, and since picture taking is the only talent I have to offer (until I get rich and can start my own philanthropic activities!), I like to get involved with community events as much as possible.

This morning was the MS Walk at Founders Park in Aventura, FL. I was put in touch with the event coordinator by Ryan from Seequent Photography, and I got to meet some really REALLY nice people. I look forward to working with them again to bring awareness to this cause!

If you’re interested in learning more about Multiple Sclerosis, please visit the Florida MS Society Homepage.

March 2, 2009 - 2:37 pm Lance - Hello Lisette... I will have to agree with Ryan that I am blown away at where you are now. I am jealous but I feel that I am more intrigued by what you or others shoot than what I would shoot. I enjoy putting together a story from your photos, as I feel like I get to know you better in those regards. =) Keep up the fantastic shots.. What are the specs/settings on the high-rise condos and dog shot?! Lens, fp...etc...you using Lightroom mostly?

March 1, 2009 - 10:07 pm Ryan - OMG YOU ROCKED IT!!! Thank you sooooooo much Lisette, you really did an amazing job. I'm really looking forward to next weekend. I am really blown away by where you are now. WOW!

-On Interviews-

I love interviews.

There, I said it.

There are some people who fear interviews, and always worry about a misstep. Saying the wrong thing, making the wrong impression. I’ve realized the best way to handle ANY interview is to simply be yourself.

There may be 9 people who don’t like you, your style, your voice, the way you look or the way you act. But it could be that 10th person that you just automatically click with. To me, interviews are a lot like relationship building in any arena, and getting the job most times, depends on individual tastes.

It’s impossible to be all things to all people.

I think the most important thing in business, and relationship building, and client loyalty is to be the right thing for the right person.

So, if you have tons of interviews lined up, don’t worry so much about nailing each one perfectly. Try to determine that potential client’s needs and honestly figure out if you can meet and satisfy them.

It will provide a much more rewarding relationship in the future (at least that’s been my experience!)

Best wishes always!

-Lisette
